Joshua Vides & Converse for MCA Chicago

Artist Joshua Vides has collaborated with Converse on a limited series of Chuck 70s that will be auctioned off next week to benefit Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA). The collection was created from a 40-foot canvas hand-painted by Vides which was cut, stitched and crafted into 30 pairs of Chucks.

And, because it’s been constructed from the canvas, each of the sneaker uppers is entirely one-of-a-kind and arrives in a custom spray-painted box. Inside, auction winners will find a certificate from Vides, Converse and MCA Chicago which numbers and authenticates the sneaker as a part of the limited run.

The three partners will host the auction in partnership with Heritage Auctions beginning on November 6 and continuing until November 13, and all proceeds from sales of the shoe will be directed to the museum to benefit the arts community.

This collaboration coincides with the artist’s installation, Forever Hallway, which is currently on view at MCA Chiago. Ahead of the opening earlier this month, HYPEBEAST spoke to Vides about his inspirations and creative process.
